Polyproplene carpet differs from other carpets in that the colour is added to the yarn at the time of making the yarn and not dyed onto the yarn after the yarn is made. By using this this process it means the colour is ‘locked in’ to the yarn thus providing a carpet that is not only stain resistant but also fade resistant even in direct sunlight. Carpets made from polyproplene are also antistatic and bleach cleanable.

Most of the carpets made from polyproplene (therefore stain resistant) are either plain or slightly flecked although there are a few patterned wilton carpets that also use the same yarn.

The most well known carpet made from polyproplene is Abingdon Stainfree Collection that offers a vast array of colours and textures as well as a 10 year stain warranty and wear warranty.

Abingdon Stainfree carpet was the first of it’s type to promote stain resistant and bleach cleanable carpeting some 15-20 years ago and is the brand leader in this type of carpet along with A.W. Carpets Stainaway Collection another manufacturer offering a large selection of stain resistant carpets.
